Next year, on one page.

Five worksheets, about an hour, your diary and a pen. Before the Year Turns is my year-end guide, A$39.

The turn of the year is a natural moment to gather your thinking. It's my end-of-year planning guide, for getting ready for 2027: where you'd like to be, what's already on its way, and the first steps you'll take. You'll come away with a clearer head and a plan that lasts well past January.

“I learnt more in 90 minutes about my future, myself, my business and what I really need to do to move forward than I have in the past five years.”

Hamish Macqueen, Director, Cleancorp (NSW)

A year-end guide that looks ahead.

You start with where you are right now, your numbers and what's on your plate, and then you build next year from there.

Then the guide turns you round to look at what might head your way in 2027, and what you'd like to do about it, one question at a time, with thirteen worksheets to guide your thinking.

  1. Start with youYou start with where you stand right now, which means your numbers, how your time is going and whatever's on your plate.
  2. Your inhabitable futureWhere you're heading: where you'd like to be by late next year, pictured as an ordinary working day you'd be glad to walk into.
  3. What's holding you backMost of us have a decision that keeps coming up and never gets a clear yes or no. This is where you work out what's been holding it up.
  4. What no longer fitsEverything you're still carrying, sorted into what you'll act on, what you'll keep an eye on, what can wait until a date you name, and what you'll stop.
  5. What's already arrivingSome of 2027 is already on the calendar, like a lease ending or a new rule starting, and some of it has started in another industry and could reach yours.
  6. What it sets offEach of those sets off ripples, and you follow them past the first, obvious one to the second and third.
  7. Who decidesFor every decision your team makes, who really decides? Some have a clear owner, some have drifted to nobody in particular, and some have quietly been handed to a machine.
  8. Who does the workYou take one task and walk it through step by step, and work out which parts are best done by a person, which by a machine and which by AI.
  9. Your immediate futuresYour immediate steps, the ones you can start this week, each with a name, a date and a way to know it worked.

And at the back, I've written up what I'm telling my clients and audiences about the year ahead, so you can see where I'd put my own attention first.

What's in the 101 pages.

Here's what you get for A$39, counted from the copy that lands in your inbox when you order.

That's what every buyer gets, as of 30 October 2026.

Twenty minutes to a week or longer.

It's the same guide whichever way you use it, and it's built to fit the time you've actually got.

On your own

Dip in and out

Open the chapter that matches what's on your mind, maybe that decision that won't go away. Every chapter stands on its own, with one worksheet, in about twenty minutes.

On your own

An hour

With a pen, your calendar and a rough idea of this year's numbers, five worksheets get you to one page: your numbers, where you're heading, what you're stopping and your two immediate steps.

On your own

The full run

All nine chapters in about three and a half hours, over four sittings, plus some time to find your numbers.

With your team

A week, then one meeting

Everyone works through the first two chapters on their own during the week, so everyone is heard evenly. Then you meet for about three hours, or two meetings, on the chapters worth talking through, and finish on the one page together.

With your team

Over several days

A leadership team or a board can take a chapter or two each session, find the facts and figures they need in between, and finish the plan together.

What you'll get out of it.

  • You'll know where you stand before you start planning next year.
  • Your decisions sorted: what you'll act on, what you'll watch, what can wait and what you'll stop.
  • A picture of what might arrive in 2027, and what it could set off.
  • One page that holds your plan.
  • Your immediate steps, each with a name and a date.

And with it

  • A worked example on every worksheet, so you can see what goes in the boxes.
  • Step-by-step guidance on every worksheet.
  • Stuck? Email me your question, and I'll answer you personally within two working days.
  • My read on the year ahead, at the back.

Leah's café

There's also a completed guide for a made-up café, so you can see what to look for, what to find out, and how someone else worked it through.

  • Leah owns two cafés and has nine staff.
  • What's arriving in 2027: paid parking on her main street in March, and a big chain café opening at the station in April.
  • The ripples she followed: commuters try the chain, her casual staff lose hours, and the landlord wants more rent when the lease comes up.
  • Her inhabitable future: two shops that run well without her on the floor every day.
  • Her immediate steps: order-ahead by text for regulars at the station from 1 March, before the chain opens, and a four-day week trial for two key staff from 1 February.

Leah, her cafés and every number are made up.

Questions people ask.

How do I plan for next year in my business?

Start with where you stand: your numbers, your time and the decision that keeps coming back.

Then think about what an ordinary working day in late 2027 would look like if you were glad to walk into it.

Look at what's already on its way, like a lease ending or a new rule, and follow what each one could set off.

Finish with two or three first steps, each with a name and a date.

That's the order the guide takes you through, one worksheet at a time.

What should a plan for next year include?

Start with where you are now, then where you'd like to be by the end of next year, and then work out what's already on its way and what your first few steps are, each with a name and a date.

Keep it to one page if you can, so it stays in sight and you actually use it.

Is there a simple planning template for a small business?

Yes, and this is one. Thirteen worksheets, each with an example in every box, and Worksheet 9B puts your whole year on a single page.

Is this for planning next year, or looking back at this one?

It's for planning next year, and getting ready for 2027.

You do start with where you stand, because a plan needs something real under it, and then everything after that looks ahead.

Can I use it for a team planning day?

Yes. Everyone works through the first two chapters on their own beforehand, so everyone is heard evenly.

Then you meet for about three hours, or two shorter meetings, on the chapters worth talking through, and finish on the one page together.

The guide sets out the order. If you'd like me to run the day, that's the workshop

Can I type into it, or print it?

Both. You get a copy you can type straight into, and one on white pages to print at home.

There's a paperback on Amazon too, A$39.

Is there a free sample?

Yes, six pages: the hour's way in, the contents, and the full ripples worksheet with an example.

You can read it right now, with no email needed. Read the free sample (PDF)

Does it work outside Australia?

Yes, the thinking works anywhere, and Leah's café could be on any main street. Prices are in Australian dollars with GST included, and your card converts it.

Is there an online session I can come to?

Yes. On Thursday 19 November, from 11 to 11.45 am AEDT, I'm running a free online session on what 2026 set off and what 2027 could mean for you.

See the online sessions

Who's it for?

Anyone who makes or moves decisions in a business, whether it's your own or your part of a bigger one.

It's my annual year-end guide, a self-paced manual, and it works for one person or many.

How long does it take?

As long as you've got.

  • Dip into one chapter in about twenty minutes.
  • Five worksheets get you to a one-page plan in an hour.
  • The full run takes about three and a half hours.
  • A team can take a week, then meet to finish it together.
  • A leadership team or a board can take it over several days.

Can I do it on my own, or with my team?

Either. On your own, you go at your own pace.

With a team, everyone works through the first two chapters on their own beforehand, so everyone is heard evenly. Then you get together for the chapters worth talking through.

If you're buying for a team, two to five copies are A$27 each, and the price per copy falls at every step after that. See what it costs for your team

What's in it?

  • Nine chapters and thirteen worksheets to guide your thinking.
  • A worked example and step-by-step guidance on every worksheet.
  • It starts with where you stand now, then looks at what might arrive in 2027, what it could set off, and your immediate steps.
  • At the back, my read on the year ahead: the ripples I'm telling clients, audiences and the media to watch for in 2027, so you plan for what's likely to come, not just what's been.
  • It all comes as a PDF you can print at home.

Is there an example I can look at?

Yes. There's a fully worked guide online, filled in for a made-up café, to use as your template.

Have a look at the café example

When does it arrive?

Straight away: it's yours the moment you order, and the link comes to your email too.

If you've ordered your own edition, it's with you within three working days, because that's how long it takes to make it yours.

What does it cost?

  • The guide: A$39.
Two to five copies are A$27 each, and the price keeps coming down the more you buy, until it's A$9 a copy once you're past 200.
  • Your edition, the guide reshaped for you, your industry, your business and its size: A$199.
A$399 for a team licence, up to 20 people.
  • Made with you, with Mo and his digital team until the end of March: A$299.
  • The workshop: let's talk about what suits you.
  • If it doesn't suit you: tell me why within 14 days and I'll refund it. Once you've signed off a proof of your firm's edition, it's been made just for your firm, so I can't refund it after that.

What's Your edition?

It's the guide made for you.

  • You answer a few questions about your industry, your business and its size.
  • You get your own edition, worked through for you.
  • Your name is on the cover.
  • It's with you within three working days.
  • Each edition is for one person. The team licence covers up to 20 people in one business.
