Before the year turns, get your team working on next year

What will next year look like for us, and what can we start doing now to get ready? It's the question I'm hearing most right now, and it's far better answered together, while there's still time to act on it, than by one person on their own.

I've run a year-end planning workshop for business owners since 2000, and this year's is ready to go. It's a working session with the people who'll actually do next year's work, whether that's a leadership team, a board, an owner and the few people they lean on, or a group of business owners who meet as peers.

What happens in the room

When we get together, it runs in this order:

  1. we capture what's been done this year and where the business stands now
  2. we pull out the best and worst of the year, and what it taught you
  3. we decide where you'd like to be this time next year
  4. we talk through the ripples likely between now and then, and further out, looking for what's possible in each one
  5. we look at how your business model is shifting
  6. we talk about what AI is changing in your business, in what your customers need and in your workforce, as plainly as any other change coming your way
  7. and we finish on your immediate futures, the first steps each of you will take once you're back at your desk
How long
We start with a half day, or go one or two days if your team wants to go further, and it can carry on through next year as follow-up workshops or ongoing advice.
Keynote and workshop
If there's a conference as well, both can run on the same day: a keynote for the conference, and then the workshop with the leadership team.
A month later
About a month later there's a complimentary online follow-up session, as standard, so the plan gets a second look after a month of real work.
You leave with
Everyone leaves with their own plan for next year, in their own words, and a copy of the guide.
